The U.S. Army Considers Making iPhones Standard Issue
The U.S. army is considering a proposal to arm its soldiers with a new weapon for the 21st century battlefield: smartphones.
"In February, the Army plans to begin fielding phones, network equipment and applications to the first Army brigade to be modernized under the brigade combat team modernization program. That test will not be limited to smart phones but will include any electronic devices that may be useful to troops."

Boss Makes Women on Their Period Wear Red Bracelets
Posted by Kim Conte at The Stir
A boss in Norway is requiring menstruating femaleswear red bracelets so that it's clear to everyone in the office that they are having their period. The thinking -- if it can be called that -- behind this new policy is to help monitor bathroom breaks; the bracelets signal why these women are using the restroom more often. Now those are some superior micro-management skills! The only thing better would be if he was to fasten a scarlet "P" to the cursed women's chests.
Can I tell you what I would do if forced to take part in such a sexist and humiliating tagging system?
Honestly, I'd be concerned that a red bracelet wasn't a significant enough reminder that I was on the rag. Therefore, in an effort to be entirely obvious about my condition in the workplace, I would employ the following tactics in an effort to convince this boneheaded boss that it really was that time of the month: I would eat lots of chocolate. I would bring my heating pad to work. I would fill my cubicle with tampons and Midol. I would even clutch my lower abdomen screaming, "Owwwwwww. Menstrual cramps are the worst!"
It sounds dramatic, I know, but I wouldn't want anyone to be confused about what was going on down there.
In fact, in the spirit of transparency, I would insist that all of my co-workers -- men and women -- be forced to reveal intimate details about their bodies, lives, and washroom habits through this color-coded bracelet system. For example, pink or blue bracelets (depending on the sex of her baby) would signal that a woman was pregnant. Green means someone came to work hungover. And, of course, brown would be for people who have to ... you know.
What do you think about this red bracelet policy?

My 4yr old: "How do I get Jewish? I want a menorah"
Me: "I'll look into it, go clean your room"
She walked away singing: "Hanukkah, Hanukkah, Festival of Lights..."

Blog Wars
I received an email from a reader over the weekend... Well, I don't think it takes much introduction, just a lot of reading... And you can "enjoy" the drama that ensued with a fellow military blogger.
Dear Wife Mom Blogger,
I've been an avid reader of your blog for over a year and noticed you post reader emails every once in a while. As a Navy wife of only 2 years and I like to keep updated with other Navy wife blogs, for info and support... One of which is a blog called The Young Retiree (http://homewifey.blogspot.com). At first I thought this girl sounded cool, she was a new Navy Wife, married about a year after me. But as the months went by she seemed to develop the stereotypical "officers wife superiority complex. Being an enlisted wife myself, I don't make a habit of informing everyone under the sun that my husband's enlisted. I don't get what it is with higher ranking enlisted wives (E-7 and above) and officers wives where they think rank applies to them too. And organizations like the FRG just encourage the women to wear their husband's rank on their sleeves by putting the higher ranking wives "in charge" of the lower ranking wives. My question to you is why? Looking at this wife, she started out normal, but is buying into the whole "I'm an officers wife so I'm better then everyone else" thing. In her October post "She Called Herself a What?" she talks about the "plight of the O wife" and how it's getting harder and harder to socialize with enlisted wives... Can you please explain this to me, because I don't understand the reasoning behind this. This girl just turned 26 and has been "an officers wife" for less then a year and according to her blog has only attended a couple FRG meeting and didn't join the NOSC till September/October... So what makes her think she can sit there and tell people, some of who have been service members or military spouses MUCH longer then her, and those who are older then her how they should act or what they should or shouldn't wear to command functions when I'm sure she's only been to a few herself.
Hope to hear back from you soon. XXXXX
A simple guide to Commissary Courtesies
1. When moving through the store, use the basic rules of traffic that good drivers use. Stay on the right side of the aisle. Pass on the left. Stop and look at intersections. If you are shopping with other people, you should either walk single file or spread out in the store. Three or more people walking abreast always seem to be the slowest moving individuals.
2. When not in motion, keep carts and humans together. If you are looking at an item, have your cart right next to you and up against the shelves so that other shoppers do not need to squeeze between your body and your diagonally parked cart.
3. Visit with your friends somewhere else. Yes I realize you haven't seen your husband's Msgt's wife since the last Ball, but the small aisles of the commissary are NOT the place to catch up.

Yeah, my parents thought I was a boy and had planned on naming me Christopher, when I came out a girl the only name they seemed to agree on was the female version of my uncle's name.

Probably taste... Which would suck... But if I choose smell, that'd actually cause me to loose my taste as well. Maybe I'm looking too far into this.
