Crap my B.R.A.T. Says

So Lil'Bit heard a "snap" and looked out her window to see that the rat-trap had caught a rat… Not understanding what really happened she came in my room and said "Mommy, its cold outside, a rat froze while driving his wood boat" [I was just glad she didn’t understand what a rat-trap really was]
THEN hours later, while trying to get Lil'Bit to clean her room, my mom says: "You better clean your room, when I went out to the car I saw an elf run behind the bushes, you know they’ve been watchin you through the window… I bet the elf was mad that you didn’t clean your room and took his anger out on the rat this morning" OMG, instant tears… I had to go check Lil'Bit's room, under the bed, behind the dresser and all, while she cried "Mommy, I don’t want an elf to make me go drive a boat in the rain, I’ll freeze like the rat!" …Poor thing, now I’m doing elf patrols outside. :-/ Yeah, thanks a lot Grandma.

The U.S. Army Considers Making iPhones Standard Issue

Had anyone seen this? The Army is considering making iPhones (and Android phones) standard issue for soldiers... And to top it off they want to pay their monthly bill. I don't know about you, but this use of government funding just doesn't really sit right with me... Especially considering they just froze all federal civilian salary increases for the next two years.

The U.S. Army Considers Making iPhones Standard Issue
Chris Gayomali   |   December 16, 2010   |   Time.com

The U.S. army is considering a proposal to arm its soldiers with a new weapon for the 21st century battlefield: smartphones.

The Army Times is reporting that early next year, iPhones, Androids and even Blackberries could potentially become standard issue next to fatigues, tactical knives and M4 rifles.
The idea behind the proposal – part of a program dubbed Connecting Soldiers to Digital Applications (CSDA) – is to grant soldiers instant access to to up-to-date information and intel while shedding a few burdensome pounds from their field bags.
The report states:
"In February, the Army plans to begin fielding phones, network equipment and applications to the first Army brigade to be modernized under the brigade combat team modernization program. That test will not be limited to smart phones but will include any electronic devices that may be useful to troops."
While the plan is still a long ways from actually being implemented – with testing and securing a data network at the forefront of priorities – the idea of widely outfitting troops with smartphones seems a bit overdue, especially when you consider how many civilian offices distribute smartphones to their employees for work purposes.
The announcement comes at a controversial time for information sharing in military circles, during a week when the U.S. army also issued a ban preventing its soldiers from viewing websites like WikiLeaks while serving.

More Arlington woes

Seriously, what the heck is going on at Arlington? Does anyone know if it's the Army who preforms the actual burial or just the ceremonial stuff?

More Arlington woes: 8 remains found in 1 grave
The Associated Press     Sunday Dec 5, 2010 9:02:16 EST

WASHINGTON — The Army has launched a criminal investigation after Arlington National Cemetery officials found eight sets of cremated remains buried in a single grave with a headstone marked “unknown.”

Cemetery spokeswoman Kaitlin Horst said officials learned of the problem in October and that investigators have now identified three of the sets of remains.

One set could not be identified and was reburied, and investigators are still working to identify the others.

The probe comes on top of a report earlier this year that found more than 200 graves had been mismarked on cemetery maps. Christopher Grey, a spokesman for the army Criminal Investigation Command, said that while those previous problems might have been human error, the placement of eight urns in one grave was unlikely to be by mistake.

National Consumer Panel

Remember the Nielsen National Consumer Panel opportunities that I have mentioned in the past?! Well, check out this email from reader, Darla, to see how she just snagged $30 in FREE cash courtesy of Nielsen…

I got a pack in the mail the other day with 2 $1 bills in it and a quick survey. I thought, “Why not…You just bought me coffee.” So I took the 3 minutes to tell them what I like to watch on tv. A month later, which was yesterday, I got a much larger package from them, with $30 cash inside! They asked me to fill out 2 weekly books of what we watch… which is 90% PBS anyway, as we don’t have cable! I don’t mind doing this, and that certainly was a nice, unexpected $30 to spend on my family today. I plan to keep doing this. Who knows what they will send me next time?

Boss Makes Women on Their Period Wear Red Bracelets

women restroomPosted by Kim Conte at The Stir

A boss in Norway is requiring menstruating femaleswear red bracelets so that it's clear to everyone in the office that they are having their period. The thinking -- if it can be called that -- behind this new policy is to help monitor bathroom breaks; the bracelets signal why these women are using the restroom more often.

Now those are some superior micro-management skills! The only thing better would be if he was to fasten a scarlet "P" to the cursed women's chests.

Can I tell you what I would do if forced to take part in such a sexist and humiliating tagging system?

Honestly, I'd be concerned that a red bracelet wasn't a significant enough reminder that I was on the rag. Therefore, in an effort to be entirely obvious about my condition in the workplace, I would employ the following tactics in an effort to convince this boneheaded boss that it really was that time of the month: I would eat lots of chocolate. I would bring my heating pad to work. I would fill my cubicle with tampons and Midol. I would even clutch my lower abdomen screaming, "Owwwwwww. Menstrual cramps are the worst!"

It sounds dramatic, I know, but I wouldn't want anyone to be confused about what was going on down there.

In fact, in the spirit of transparency, I would insist that all of my co-workers -- men and women -- be forced to reveal intimate details about their bodies, lives, and washroom habits through this color-coded bracelet system. For example, pink or blue bracelets (depending on the sex of her baby) would signal that a woman was pregnant. Green means someone came to work hungover. And, of course, brown would be for people who have to ... you know.

What do you think about this red bracelet policy?

My 4yr old: "Mommy, I need a menorah for my room"
Me: "You're not Jewish"
My 4yr old: "How do I get Jewish? I want a menorah"
Me: "I'll look into it, go clean your room"

She walked away singing: "Hanukkah, Hanukkah, Festival of Lights..."

Black Friday deals on base!

I don't usually bother with the MCX or AAFES on black Friday... In the past, AAFES online has run pretty good Cyber Monday deals (I got a $500 Bowflex for $200 a couple years ago, with free shipping)... None the less, for those who may want to go check out the exchanges on Friday I have posted their black Friday add below... Let us know the good deals you get.

As far as Marine Corps Exchanges go, I couldn't find a universial add, they seem to do it by instalation:  Camp Pendleton MCX  and  Miramar MCX  I couldn't find any of the other MCX adds, if you happen to have the website, fell free to post it below.

Music These Days

Did anyone watch the American Music Awards... I tried to... 'Try' being the key word. I don't know if it's my age or what, but I'm starting to understand how my mom felt when I made her listen to The Offspring, Bush and Green Day as she drive me to school, she used to say "How can you listen to this shit, all they do is scream" ...Well that's how I felt tonight. HaHa. You gotta understand I only listen to country... Well, and weird British attests or small town bands that no one's heard of... I didn't know who half these presenters were :-/

But really, is the music supposed to sound like this or were these people just having an off night? Puff Daddy, or P.Diddy, Or "Big Dirty Diddy"or "Diddy Dirty Money"? I have no idea what he's going by these days... But his 40 year old ass with his lower grill was tryin to fit in with the kids these days and still hasn't taken dancing lessons... ::shrugs:: I have no idea how he made it on this show, and we'll leave it at that... I few questions I had to ask myself throughout the show Is Miley Cyrus trying to sing country? I couldn't tell but I think I liked her better as Hannah Montana. Is Rinnah and the Black Eye Peas supposed to sound like that? Did Katy Perry use Fergie's microphone or is this how she usually sounds without a lot of background music. I don't get why people have been makin fun of this this Justen Bieber kid, he's pretty good and actually has a really good voice, getter then Miley anyway. Seriously people, the quality of music had drastically gone down...

Oh but Holy Hell, did you see The New Kids on the Block & The Back Street Boys?!? Amazing

The only thing that coulda made it better was if they got N'Sync to preform with them.

Blog Wars

I received an email from a reader over the weekend... Well, I don't think it takes much introduction, just a lot of reading... And you can "enjoy" the drama that ensued with a fellow military blogger.

Dear Wife Mom Blogger,
I've been an avid reader of your blog for over a year and noticed you post reader emails every once in a while. As a Navy wife of only 2 years and I like to keep updated with other Navy wife blogs, for info and support... One of which is a blog called The Young Retiree (http://homewifey.blogspot.com). At first I thought this girl sounded cool, she was a new Navy Wife, married about a year after me. But as the months went by she seemed to develop the stereotypical "officers wife
superiority complex. Being an enlisted wife myself, I don't make a habit of informing everyone under the sun that my husband's enlisted. I don't get what it is with higher ranking enlisted wives (E-7 and above) and officers wives where they think rank applies to them too. And organizations like the FRG just encourage the women to wear their husband's rank on their sleeves by putting the higher ranking wives "in charge" of the lower ranking wives. My question to you is why? Looking at this wife, she started out normal, but is buying into the whole "I'm an officers wife so I'm better then everyone else" thing. In her October post "She Called Herself a What?" she talks about the "plight of the O wife" and how it's getting harder and harder to socialize with enlisted wives... Can you please explain this to me, because I don't understand the reasoning behind this. This girl just turned 26 and has been "an officers wife" for less then a year and according to her blog has only attended a couple FRG meeting and didn't join the NOSC till September/October... So what makes her think she can sit there and tell people, some of who have been service members or military spouses MUCH longer then her, and those who are older then her how they should act or what they should or shouldn't wear to command functions when I'm sure she's only been to a few herself.

Hope to hear back from you soon.  XXXXX

A simple guide to Commissary Courtesies

This is a post of mine from 3 or so year ago... But after a hideous trip to March air force base's commissary I found a need to re-post it...

A simple guide to Commissary Courtesies

1. When moving through the store, use the basic rules of traffic that good drivers use. Stay on the right side of the aisle. Pass on the left. Stop and look at intersections. If you are shopping with other people, you should either walk single file or spread out in the store. Three or more people walking abreast always seem to be the slowest moving individuals.

2. When not in motion, keep carts and humans together. If you are looking at an item, have your cart right next to you and up against the shelves so that other shoppers do not need to squeeze between your body and your diagonally parked cart.

3. Visit with your friends somewhere else. Yes I realize you haven't seen your husband's Msgt's wife since the last Ball, but the small aisles of the commissary are NOT the place to catch up.

Fill-in Friday

MilSpouse Friday Fill-In
(please feel free to use this!)

1. Were you named after anyone?
Yeah, my parents thought I was a boy and had planned on naming me Christopher, when I came out a girl the only name they seemed to agree on was the female version of my uncle's name.

2. What color, if any, are your toenails usually painted?
Black.

3. How do you flush a public toilet? Hands? Feet? Something else?

Defiantlywith my foot.

4. When you were a little kid, which TV character did you have a crush on?
Johnathin Taylor Thomas from Home Improvement.

5.Let’s say you had to lose one of your five senses (sight, hearing, touch, taste, and smell).  Which one would you choose? Why?
Probably taste... Which would suck... But if I choose smell, that'd actually cause me to loose my taste as well. Maybe I'm looking too far into this.

Candy Turkeys

Do you have leftover Halloween candy? If so, I stumbled across this cute idea at "Lizard & Ladybug" ...If you don't have left over Halloween candy, you might want to go buy some more so you can make these super cute turkeys.

Now that Halloween is over...it's time to get ready for Thanksgiving.
I am hosting Thanksgiving dinner at our house this year.
I'm planning a casual gathering (I'll give you peeks along the way).
One thing I always like to have at parties/dinners/get-togethers is sweets.
Shock, I know!

Here's a little treat I came up with using leftover Halloween candy.

Coastal Contacts is giving away 10,000 FREE pairs of glasses on 11/12 at 12:01 pm EST (9:01 am PST) on their Facebook Page. From what I can tell it seems like they will be posting a code on their wall (similar to the Lowe’s promotion) and the first 10,000 to redeem it will receive the free glasses. It seems like ya’ll have been doing great at the sweepstakes–I’ve had 5 winners in the past week who have won various different sweepstakes that I’ve posted!

Happy 235th Birthday Marine Corps!

On November 10, 1775, the Second Continental Congress resolved to raise two battalions of "American Marines." Congress commissioned 31-year-old Samuel Nicholas, a well-known Philadelphian, as captain of the fledgling force of Continental Marines. Nicholas raised two battalions of Marines and began the long, illustrious history of the United States Marine Corps.

FREE meal for military on veterans day

Once again, Applebee’s will thank our nation’s veterans and active duty military by inviting them to their neighborhood Applebee’s for a FREE meal on Veterans Day, Thursday, Nov. 11, 2010. Last year, Applebee’s served more than one million military men and women and expects that number to be even higher this year. The company’s appreciation efforts last year were the largest of its kind to give back to the communities nationwide where Applebee’s restaurants are located.
